Scuba Diving in Sydney, Australia
Reader Reviews:
Dive Site: Latitude Rocks
Location: Forster
Description: Hard Boat, Rocky Island Pinnacle
Depth: 12 metres (39 feet)
Visibility: 5 - 10 metres (16 - 33 feet - unusually poor)
Rating: ****
We dived this site several times as the visibility was so unusually poor for this time of year many of the surrounding dive site locations around Forster were considered not worth diving. However there was plenty of life to make for interesting re-visits to this site. And most of one dive was spent hiding in the thick kelp along an underwater ridge where three Grey Nurse Shark were patrolling. By keeping low to the bed and remaining within the kelp provided everyone in our group a very close encounter with these gentle sharks, some of which were fairly large at over two metres long.
Poor visibility also meant that on several occasions whilst navigating the site several people really got very close to sharks, coming nose to nose, and almost bumping into the Grey nurses whilst swimming through the kelp.
