Dive Site: Southwest Breaker
Location: Bermuda
Description: Reef
Depth: 12 metres (40 feet)
Visibility: 30 metres (100 feet)
Rating: ****
The Southwest Breaker is a series of three breakers, one of which breaks the surface, meaning the dive site is clearly visible from shore. The dive provides a good variety of fish and marine life which shelter along the vertical sides and overhangs of the breakers. There is a large tunnel through the centre of the breaker as well as other swim-throughs and overhangs. Snapper, grunts and hogfish can be seen as well as large sea fans and hard corals.
The Southwest Breaker was the location for the infamous Jacqueline Bisset scene from the film 'The Deep' and is additionally the location for the hideout for the giant squid in the book 'The Beast'.
