Scuba Diving in Lanzarote
Reader Reviews:
Dive Site: Punta Jabillo
Location: Bay at the bottom of Costa Teguise
Description: Shore dive in a manmade lido
Depth: 7 metres max (23 feet)
Visibility: 40 metres (130 feet)
Rating: ****
When we got to the centre in the morning we were given the option of doing a wreck dive in Puerto Del Carmen, or heading down the road to the bay where the centre did training as four angel sharks were seen in the bay that morning. We decided to go for the angel sharks.
We entered the water on a slope that dropped gently to a maximum depth of 7 metres. The bay is around 200 square metres in size. The manmade barrier to the open sea is covered in life with hundreds of fish and sea anemones. At the wall there is a mix of warm water from the bay and the cold water from the open sea which washed in barracuda chasing a fish or two and then swimming out on the next big wave. As we went around the bay our guide pointed out a couple of angel sharks in the sand. As you swim over them you can really see the outline of an angel - giving them their name. As we hovered near a big outline, twice the size of a grown man, the shark swam to a different location. Ordinarily this site would only be recommended for training and would only be a 2 star site, but getting the chance to see these sharks in the wild and not in an aquarium was fantastic.
