Scuba Diving in Bonaire, Caribbean
Reader Reviews:
Dive Site: Thousand Steps
Location: North Bonaire
Description: Reef dive from a boat
Depth: 5 - 40 metres (15 - 130 feet)
Visibility: 30 metres (100 feet)
Rating: ****
This dive is called 1000 Steps because if you do it from the shore, you have to go down a lot of steps, which apparently feel like 1000 if you are carrying heavy dive equipment. Fortunately we did it from a boat.
This is a gentle slope with lots of gorgonians, brain corals, and sea plumes. There were lots of cornetfish - some had the strange habit of appearing to piggyback on other fish. We also saw a beautiful red crab hiding in a hole. There were also giant blue parrotfish, surgeonfish, snappers and a turtle in the open water. Apparently you can see rays and whale sharks here, but we didn't!
The water was a wonderful 28 degrees
