Scuba Diving in Cuba, Caribbean
Dive Site: Encanto (Enchant)
Location: Maria la Gorda, Cuba
Description: Wall and tunnel
Depth: 30 metres + (100 feet)
Visibility: 10 - 30 metres (30 - 100 feet)
Rating: ****
A wall with lots of tunnels and caves, some of which were a tight fit. We went up and down lots of sandy gullies which were unfortunately suffering from low visibility (down to about 10m) due to a second boat load of divers getting to the site shortly before we did. There was also a guy with a video camera who shamelessly dragged himself through the reef in order to get some good shots. In one of the tunnels there was a huge crab about 50cm across - the biggest crab I've ever seen! Next to it was a free-swimming nudibranch and at the top of the tunnel there was an arrow crab. Towards the end of the dive I managed to sneak up on a barracuda that had no idea I was there as I swam up behind it. As I was photographing it, a huge stingray flew past in the distance gliding over the sand with a large fish hovering above it. A lovely dive, it was just a shame there were so many other divers around - I suppose we'd been spoilt earlier in the week when there were only a few divers on the boat.
