Dive Site: Makaha Caverns
Location: Kepuhi Point, West Oahu
Description: Reef
Depth: 14 metres (46 metres)
Visibility: 40 metres (140 feet)
Rating: *****
The Makaha Caverns are two underwater lava tubes that merge together. Lava tubes are formed when lava flows underneath a solidified crust. When the lava flow stops, it drains away leaving behind a hollow tube. The Caverns are spacious, so are easy to get through. Outside the caverns there is a patchy reef where I saw turtles and white tip sharks as I was exploring.
