Scuba Diving in Baltimore, County Cork, Ireland, Europe
Dive Site: 78 Rock
Location: Near Castletownshend, County Cork, Ireland, Europe
Description: Pinnacle
Depth: 18 - 40 metres (59 - 131 feet)
Visibility: 10 metres (30 feet)
Rating: ***
78 Rock is a pinnacle that quickly rises up from the seabed. It was whilst divers were exploring the base of the pinnacle that they found the U-260. Diving here is very pretty as jewel anemones cover the rocks interspersed only with patches of plumose anemones. There are quite a few wrasse and pollack swimming around and a lot of sea urchins. I also spotted one edible crab in a crevasse. Whilst we were diving here it was meant to be slack water, but there was still quite a current running. This unfortunately meant we couldn't explore too great an area as we didn't want to risk not being able to get back to the shot.
