Dive Site: Argo Delos

Description: 10,392 ton cargo ship
Depth: 33 - 46 metres (108 - 151 feet)
Visibility: 15 + metres (50 feet)
Rating: *****
The Argo Delos was wrecked in 1960. The bow section lies at Tor Rocks, but the bulk of the ship lies intact at a maximum depth of 46m with the top of the wreck at 33m. Slack water dive only.

A nice surface interval can be had at the nearby Inishtrahull Island. The bow section can be done as a separate dive and starts in a gully at 12m. A large piece of the bow is upturned revealing the ribbing and the anchor holes. It creates a strange, photogenic sight. Various pieces of wreckage lie scattered around in the gully and surrounds. The gully wall itself is jam packed with sessile filter feeders.
Moving down the gully large smoothed pebbles form the bottom composition and at about 27m is a pair of large bollards, still set on a piece of decking.
The gully has ridges running down and the shallower parts can be subjected to surge. Worse, currents can be very strong at times even close in, and these can sweep you back out of the gully and down if not careful.
