The HMS Racoon was wrecked in 1918. It now lies at a depth of 17m and can only be dived during slack water.

I research War Memorials in Northern Ireland and write a book on each of them. Although none of the men lost on Racoon are named on a memorial, some are buried at Ballycastle, Billy and Ballintoy. I would have liked a small memonto from the ship in their memory.
I am at present researching Ballycastle war memorial and I'm planning to do a small piece on each of the men from HMS Racoon who are buried in Ballycastle and Ballintoy. If any relative is looking at this site and might be in a position to help with a photograph or information, that would be most useful.

A lot of information has been researched and a booklet witten by Dick White from Lancaster about HMS Racoon. I found him when I was researching my grandmothers brother E. F. Walter who is buried Bonamargy Cemetery. If you are still interested I can give more details.

The photos above are of Walter George Farrow, his children and his gravestone.... buried at Billy Church of Ireland churchyard. His service number was M/20523. Walter George Farrow was the son of Herbert George and Matilda Farrow and was born late 1886. Walter George Farrow married Louisa Mary Moutrie on Dec 23rd 1911 and they had two children Leonard Robert Farrow 1912 - 2001. Marjorie E Farrow 1915 - 200? Their final home was in South Tottenham. Leonard went on to marry and had a son Robert. Marjorie never married but became a headmistress in Enfield. Louisa never remarried but kept close contact with her family (the Moutries) in Southend On Sea bringing up her children with cousins who had also lost a father in the armed forces during the War. My own mother and uncle were brought up by this group of ladies. Leonard stayed close to Southend on Sea all his life.

I am researching my maternal family tree and have just discoverd that my Uncle George Herbert Hall was on HMS Racoon when it went down. His body was never found. He was 19.

While I am sure this is already well known to you, there is a connection with Culduff (Inishowen, Co Donegal) Church of Ireland graveyard.
