There a few words to describe the experience we encountered on this dive. The dive site was named Turtle Patch, however unlike almost every other site here on Sipadan it wasn't the turtles that monopolised our dive. Located towards South Point, the most southerly dive site off Sipadan it is the usual deep vertical wall. For almost the entire dive we found ourselves caught up in the most amazing underwater phenomenon - tens of thousands of jacks or giant trevallies spiralling in around 15m of water up towards the surface. What seemed like just a few minutes was actually around 40 minutes with this amazing spectacle, and as if the jacks themselves weren't enough we found ourselves amongst schools of white-tip sharks patrolling the outer perimeter. The jacks stayed with us and at times completely surrounded us, encasing us in their massive underwater sphere. At one stage my buddy looked down on me from above and later told me I was filming from the epiCenter of the ball as the jacks spiralled and swarmed in perfect formation around my insignificant form.
