Scuba Diving in The Maldives
Reader Reviews:
Dive Site: Manta Point
Location: Near Soneva Fushi, Baa Atoll, Maldives
Description: Reef with 2 manta ray cleaning stations
Depth: 30 - 35 metres (100 - 115 feet)
Visibility: 25 metres (80 feet)
Rating: *****
I went here three times, once in July 2004 and twice in August 2005 and saw manta rays on the first and third trip. You drop down onto the sand by a large rock. Sometimes there is quite a strong current so you have to hang on, at other times it was calm. You wait patiently underwater for the mantas to come. If they don't come you move to another station, across the sand and wait there. While you are down there, there is lots to see even if you don't see the mantas. There are a group of sweetlips, several scorpion fish, rock cod, lots of anchovies, shrimp, boxfish and anemone fish.
However, when the mantas do come swimming through the sea slightly above you, it is breathtaking. They glide so quietly and smoothly and they seem enormous. When they arrive this dive is magical. We saw about 4 of them on each occasion.
