Dive Site: The Victory Wreck

Location: Western side of Hulhule Airport Island, North Male Atoll

Description: Cargo ship

Length: 110 metres (360 feet)

Depth: 12 metres (39 feet) to top of wreck, 35 metres (115 feet) to sea floor

Visibility: 15 - 25 metres

The Maldives Victory Wreck is a 110 metre long cargo ship that sank in 1981, which was long enough ago to allow a profusion of hard and soft coral growth to have become established on it. It is shotted on the main deck by the mast, which I dropped down to before heading into the holds. Inside there were lots of bottles and cigarettes and a selection of small mosaic tiles. I explored the stern and bridge area where I saw schools of fusiliers and some jacks. Before our ascent I stopped for some photos on the bridge. A cool dive - but has to be dived on slack.
