Dive Site: Embudhu Express / Maaya Thila

Emboodhoo Express is the name of the channel entering South Male Atoll towards Emboodhoo Island Resort. This drift dive was fairly rapid and just as the thila appeared the current veered us away from it into the blue. Hanging in the blue you may be lucky enough to see hammerheads circling below you. There are clouds of surgeon fish, and manta rays swoop over the reef. There are also many hundreds of beautiful small fish among the soft coral, making this site a photographers dream. I spotted a family of Napoleon wrasse, schools of batfish, and hunting tuna and trevally.

There is nearly always big school of eagle rays close to the top of the channel. A dive that has to be done as many times as possible on your vacation.

This site is a very good shark spot in the daytime as well as during a nigtht dive. Astounding to see whitetips nearly 1 metre underneath you. I saw grey reef sharks, eagle rays and lots and lots of fish on top of the Thila. Amazing dive, one of the best of my trip.
