Scuba Diving in Malta, Europe
Reader Reviews:
Dive Site: Comino Caves (Santa Maria Caves)
Location: Eastern side of Comino
Description: Cave dive
Depth: 16 metres (52 feet)
Visibility: 25 metres (80 feet)
Rating: *****
The boat anchored in a very sheltered inlet and we descended the shot line to be met by hundreds of saddle bream whom we fed with bread the dive school had provided for us. Once all the bread had been devoured and photos had been taken we followed our dive leader through a brilliant cave complex. It was very pretty with the sun shining through from time to time. Although I'm not over happy in caves, they were so open and pretty I felt very relaxed. Once out the other side, we swam amongst boulders, seeing octopus and spiny lobster and finally came back through the same caves which looked totally different coming the other way! There was another cave we swam through and a nice arch before coming back to the boat.
We dived this site in August 2008. There is a wonderful fantasy element to this dive as you move from light to dark and see the sun shining down through crevices. We fed the fish at the start as well.
