Heian Maru is the largest ship in Truk lagoon and lies on its port side. The name is clearly visible on the bow, both in English and Japanese. We went into the holds where there were torpedoes then through the bridge where there was a perfect set of windows. Some of the upper structure of the wreck has collapsed to seabed.

Heian Maru Resources
Due to the rain we dived Heian Maru in worse vis than Rik experienced but we still had an amazing dive. We entered the engine room of the ship and worked our way through to a corridor behind the bridge where we found periscopes with their optics still intact. In its pre-war days the Heian Maru was a luxury liner. The wreck was converted for use as a submarine re-supply vessel. I am reliably informed she would rendezvous with subs and the sub crew would spend time on board in R & R during re-fuelling, re-arming with torpedoes and re-provisioning.
