Scuba Diving in Malapascua Island, Cebu, the Philippines
Reader Reviews:
Dive Site: North Point
Location: Malapascua Island, Cebu
Description: Reef
Depth: 8 - 24 metres (26 - 79 feet)
Visibility: 15 metres (50 feet)
Rating: ***
North Point is a largely sandy and coral area undulating in depth between 8 and 24 metres. There are large coral heads which you can cruise around at a leisurely pace depending on the current, which does tend to change direction around the coral formations. As dives here are boat drop off and separate boat pick up current is not an issue, but carrying a delayed SMB and deploying it from 5 to 6 metres is recommended. The coral gardens are home to any number of nudibranchs and we saw several small shoals of catfish feeding off the seabed in a forward "hovering" type manoeuvre. This site is good for a second or third dive of the day, located around 20 minutes boat ride from Bounty Beach and, as its name would suggest, on the northerly point of Malapascua Island. I'd like to have dived here is a strong current which would have made "flying" over the reef and coral formations exhilarating.
