Scuba Diving in Coron, Palawan, the Philippines
Dive Site: Lusong Gunboat
Location: Coron, Palawan, Philippines
Description: Gunboat
Depth: 5 - 15 metres (15 - 50 feet)
Visibility: 15 metres (30 feet)
Rating: ***
The Lusong gunboat is a shallow wreck that is ideal for beginners, can be snorkelled in between dives or can be done as a second shallow dive, finishing on the reef. It's a very small wreck but its also very pretty and there's plenty of life surrounding it.
Reader Reviews:
As a second dive this site finishes the day nicely and would be ideal to reduce nitrogen loading on your penultimate day in resort. The wreck itself is tiny and there is only really one small area where you can get inside but it is situated right on the edge of a beautiful coral reef and the coral species are beginning to colonise the wreck. A camera is essential here as you will find numerous great photographic opportunities. We saw a huge worm of some sort on a bulkhead within the wreck. A real mean looking hombre it was too with nasty spikes around its mouth. At least I assume I was looking at its front end at the time! After you have exhausted the wreck the guides take you on a short drift dive across the reef which must have some of the finest coral I have seen anywhere I have dived, not at all like some of the tired looking offerings you are beginning to see around Sharm nowadays.
