Scuba Diving in Sharm El Sheikh, Red Sea
Reader Reviews:
Dive Site: Tower
Location: Sharm El Sheikh
Description: Wall / drift
Depth: 5 - 30 metres (16 - 100 feet)
Visibility: 20 metres (65 feet)
Rating: ***
By far the best dive site I experienced during my trip to Sharm El Sheikh. A drift dive and descent down a three-sided wall - hence 'tower'. A shore or boat dive with a manta ray! Ideal for beginners who want a challenge.
Claire Ritchie, PADI Open Water
Located halfway between Sharm el Shek and Na'ama Bay the Tower is often dived as a shore dive, where divers enter the water and descend to around 5m, where there is a cave which goes through the reef for several metres. The tunnel then opens into a three sided canyon in the reef wall and drops away steeply. This site actually gets its name from a rock formation above the surface and to the south of the shore entrance which is clearly visible from dive boats. There is a stone tower which sits proud of the rocky shoreline. The tower is an impressive dive in terms of topography and also has some great marine attractions. Claire - I'm very jealous you saw a manta here (see attached picture). There are several small caves with sweepers and glassfish crammed wall to wall and this also makes an excellent night dive spot.
Rik Vercoe, BSAC Advanced Instructor
The Tower we dived as a night and a day dive, and on both occasions were pleasantly surprised by the amount of marine life so close to the tourist areas! Photogenically it is superb particularly so during the late afternoon around Feb time, as the sun begins to go down, creating shadows over the healthy corals at the top of the tower. Better still, the light quality of the sun is golden partially refracted and partially reflected, creating a dappled mirror on/under the sea surface.
