Scuba Diving at Protea Banks, South Africa
Reader Reviews:
Dive Site: The Northern Pinnacles
Location: Protea Banks, South Africa
Description: Reef
Depth: 23 - 38 metres (75 - 125 feet)
Visibility: 20 metres (65 feet)
Rating: *****
With its rare pink soft coral this area hosts many reef fish, including potato bass and many pelagic fish like tuna and yellowtails. There are also two cave areas called 'Hole in the Wall' and 'Hole in the Floor' attracting ragged tooth sharks in large numbers during mating season in the winter. As spring goes into summer, large shoals of scalloped hammerheads and every now and then, a great white shark is seen on the ledge.
The Northern Pinnacles are best dived from June to November.
