Scuba Diving in L'Estartit, Spain, Europe
Reader Reviews:
Dive Site: Dolphin Cave
Location: Medas Islands, L'Estartit, Costa Brava, Spain
Description: Marine reserve cave
Depth: 10 - 30 metres (30 - 100 feet)
Visibility: 5 - 30 metres (15 - 100 feet)
Rating: ****
I dived here in late April several years ago and visibility varied from gin clear to a bad day in Stoney Cove. However when visibility was good it was as good as Malta or the Red Sea. Dolphin Cave can be dived from either end as it is actually a tunnel. The tunnel cn be quite dark so a torch would be useful for looking at things on the floor etc. It is very large so you won't be claustrophobic - about 15m in the middle. You can see the exit as soon as you enter from each end but is a true overhead enviroment so I would recommend this for someone who has had traing past Open Water level.

This is a great dive, with an exciting small entrance at 8-10 metres and a large tunnel with a huge exit on the other side. Take a torch - its dark in the middle - and you'll enjoy it a lot more, big anemones/fan worms on the cave bottom, shoals of fish and very colourful sponge lined walls. The exit is smothered in colourful seafans above the exit, if you flip onto your back as you exit - odd dusky grouper hiding in there too - fantastic. I've dived the Red Sea [Sharm] and enjoyed this dive as almost as much as that. It was my first cave dive though so maybe I'm easily impressed.
