Dive Site: The Buttresses

Location: Outside Mtwara Bay, Tanzania

Description: Reef

Depth: 14 - 25 metres (46 - 80 feet)

Visibility: 5 - 20 metres (15 - 65 feet)

The is located outside Mtwara Bay, and a fair distance to the south around Ruvula Beach off the Msimbati peninsular. Eco2 will take parties here for 2 tank dives but they have a group size minimum of 6 divers to help with the fuel costs and there is an extra charge of US$ 10.00 per person for entering the Mnazi Marine Reserve. Since the locals only get charged US$ 1.00 I think it is stretching things to charge visitors ten times that rate, when surely reducing to even US$ 5.00 would encourage more visitors?

An extensive spur and groove zone 10-12 metres high at their tips. Sharks, turtles and large groupers are found here.
