Scuba Diving in Turkey
Reader Reviews:
Dive Site: Poyraz Bay
Location: Black Island, Bodrum, Turkey
Description: Reef
Depth: 5 - 30 metres (15 - 100 feet)
Visibility: 20 metres (65 feet)
Rating: ****
Poyraz Bay is located about two thirds of the way down the southern side of Black Island and is sheltered behind a rocky outcrop although the bay itself was constantly swept with a strong breeze. As we entered the water in the shallows we were greeted by shoals of silver bream and snapper which congregated and followed us for the first part of the dive. We headed west with no current out to the point looking for octopus where the wall dropped away down a stepped rocky incline. A pair of lizardfish posed nicely for photographs. Returning to the confined bay area small, yellow gobies rested silently between the rock slope and seagrass. We remained at this site for a night dive which certainly seemed to be the highlight of many of the divers' week. Diving close to the boat in around 5 metres of water the group saw a grey sand ray and a multitude of other fish life, including sleeping goatfish, parrotfish, cuttlefish and a free-swimming octopus.
