Dive Site: St Mary's Island / Lighthouse
Location: Near Whitley Bay, Newcastle
Description: Shore dive
Depth: 0 to 6 metres (0 to 20 feet)
Visibility: 1 to 3 metres (3 to 10 feet)
Rating: **
This site requires a 200 metre walk from the car park to the island. 10 litre cylinders are advisable. The entry is from the rocks on an incoming tide. Plenty of good weather prior to the dive is required for good viz. Avoid diving the seaward side of the island due to the currents. This is a good novice dive if the viz is good. A compass is required along with shore cover.

This is an excellent novice dive with remains of to wrecks easily found. Over the years I have came across lobsters, octopus and cuttle fish (big surprise) lumpsuckers and several types of cold fish.
You need about five days of good south west winds for best conditions.
Have a safe dive.
