Dive Site: Babbacombe Bay
Location: Babbacombe, Devon
Description: Reef
Depth: 8 metres (26 feet)
Visibility: 6 metres (20 feet)
Rating: ***
This dive site is in a quiet calm bay, found at the bottom of a very steep hill (don't over load cars or put tanks at the back of the car or you'll never get back up!). There are toilet facilities during the summer and a friendly pub and this is also a locals favorite fishing spot.
The dive is good for training and evening dives, and is a bit like diving in a large rock pool as it's fairly consistently shallow. There's lots of life such as pipefish, crabs, shrimps, cuttlefish etc.

During the day from around Easter time the cafe is open which not only sells hot food and drinks but does air fills too. Make sure you get a parking ticket as the clamper is on regular patrol winter or summer!

Apparently this is a major location for cuttlefish breeding and is in need of protection from pot fishing. See this website for more details and some beautiful video clips: http://www.marinevisionstudios.com/pages/viddvdcd.htm

Had a shore dive at Babbacombe Bay, excellent easy shore dive with great viz. We went in April '07. It was a great sunny warm weekend. Water temp was 15 degrees, not bad for British waters. Viz was around 8m, plenty of scallops, cuttlefish and wrasse. Ideal for newly qualified or for a nice easy weekends diving
Our group ranged from advanced to assistant instructor, all enjoyed this shore dive.
