London International Dive Show 2008

Venue:

ExCeL, London

Event description:

Twice a year the diving world gears up for the highlights of the sport's calendar — the London and Birmingham Dive Shows. At each event hundreds of leading suppliers of the latest diving gear, holidays, training courses, leisurewear and boats meet with thousands of experienced and wannabe divers from the UK, Europe and beyond.

A galaxy of big diving names is set to gather at London’s annual International Dive Show (LIDS) at ExCeL on 8/9 March. The emphasis will be on extreme diving, with plenty of deep wreck and free diving action also on the menu.

World famous diver Jarrod Jablonski; British free diver Sara Campbell; explorer, environmentalist and filmmaker Fabien Cousteau; LIDS regular Monty Halls and ace underwater photographer Alex Mustard will all be on stage.

There will be another 25 free-to-enter seminars going on throughout the
weekend too, so there’ll be no shortage of things for the 14,000 or so new and experienced divers and their friends and families to see and do.

In the exhibition hall around 250 companies will be showing everything from
equipment and travel to training and clothing. Photo displays will include the cream of the Sharks In Focus competition, organised by the Shark Trust and Diver Magazine, as well as the exciting work of Alex Mustard.

As ever, there is also a chance for non-divers and children to get wet in
the Try-Dive Pool and the story of sponge-diving and the hardhat heroes who became involved in this pursuit is the theme of the Historic Diving Society’s exhibit.

Supporting the British Isles Experience feature at LIDS 2008, the BSAC will have a separate stand highlighting its colourful new “Go! Diving UK” DVD - copies of which will be available free to visitors. Containing stunning footage of diving with marine life including seals and basking sharks, and exploring wrecks such as HMS Scylla and the historic German High Seas Fleet in Scapa Flow, this DVD is recommended viewing for anyone wanting to discover more about our home waters.

You can save £3 by booking tickets to LIDS in advance. Visit www.diveshows.co.uk for more information and to order your tickets, or call the ticket hotline on 020 8977 9878.  Tickets cost £10.50 on the door.  Children under 14 go free.
