Scuba Diving in the Poor Knights, New Zealand

Dive Site: Middle Arch

Location: Poor Knights Islands, New Zealand

Description: Reef dive

Depth: 10 - 20 metres (30 - 65 feet)

Visibility: 26 metres (85 feet)

Rating: ****

We started this dive with a swim through an archway that can be seen above water, then headed down towards some rocky outcrops, before heading back through the arch on the opposite wall. There were lots of nudibranchs and moray eels among the kelp as well as quite a few stingrays swimming around. The walls are encrusted in various anemones and hydrozoa and we could liken the diving to Scotland but with better visibility. We also saw sea scorpions and triggerfish. The boat waits for you in a sheltered cove and there is a minimal surface swim to get to the site from where it anchors.
